The Price of Victory, Europe 1945 (Readings for World War II)

There have been countless literature on World War II, so adding to this would be like a drop in the ocean.   So to commemorate V-E day, here are two books that

explored the immensity of emotion that must have been felt by those who saw the end of the war, but now had to live in its aftermath.   I also added an

alternate history book which explored the possibility of a war continuing in a different way.

 2. The Long Road Home – The Aftermath of the Second World War – this book, while it explores the devastation at the end of the war, explores it through the lens of those who suffered; the refugees who have no home to go back to, and who have nowhere to go

The Man in the Iron Heart – An alternate history fiction in a series of readings exploring the aftermath of World War II?  This is a different kind of alternate history–World War 2 did end, but one of Germany’s cruelest figures survived in this alternate reality to carry on the fight against the occupiers in a terrifying new way: terrorism.    It explores World War II in a different kind of way, a way where brutality manifests itself in another form.   This was written at the time of the Iraq occupation in the late 2000s, which itself is an exploration of a war that never really ended after it supposedly was declared over.
