Joker as Frankenstein

So is this really the plan?  Is Joker setting himself up as a Frankenstein, with the intention of making a monster?  We can only wait until July 18.

It only takes one bad day, to change a man.

To those who haven’t read, (or at least wiki’ed) the comic The Killing Joke, the new Batman movie The Dark Knight will come as a gradual, disturbing, psychological thriller.   The way, however, that the trailers, the speculations, and the focus on Harvey Dent is going, is going at the same verve as the comic.

In the Killing Joke, the origin of Batman’s arch-nemesis is revealed; that in heart, he started off as a good man, making ends meet, until a final, tragic bad day sets him off to madness and a criminal spree.  To prove the point that one bad joke… day, I mean… can transform a man, he uses Commissioner Jim Gordon, and sets him up for that one bad day.   Suffice it to say, the good man remains a good man and the Joker is apprehended.

Where the Killing Joke failed, maybe the Dark Knight will succeed; check out Joker’s quotes in the trailers: “It’s all part of the plan”, “Gotham needs a better class of criminal, and I’m going to give it to him”, “I’m a man of my word”.   Christopher Nolan also noted that this Joker’s influence would include the Killing Joke.

So is this really the plan?  Is Joker setting himself up as a Frankenstein, with the intention of making a monster?  We can only wait until July 18.
